Burgundy and Champagne carry this cellar, and both go far past where a wine list normally stops. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti runs deep enough to read as a vertical; Krug and Billecart-Salmon hold the Champagne end; Trimbach takes Alsace further than most cellars bother to. Magnums are stocked for a table that has outgrown a bottle. Bottles at the shallow end sit within reach of an ordinary dinner, directly beneath ones priced like a holiday. Choose the producer, then the year — reading this list sideways will defeat you.
